Shanklish

Shanklish is a traditional Middle Eastern cheese made from fermented milk, shaped into balls and coated with herbs. With a tangy flavour and crumbly texture, it’s typically served as a meze with olive oil, tomatoes, onions, and lebanese bread.


Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Bekaa Dairy Shanklish, crumbled

  • 2 medium tomatoes, finely chopped

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1 garlic clove, minced

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

  • 1 tbsp fresh mint, chopped (optional)

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped (optional)

  • Fennel, sliced thinly for dipping

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Shanklish: Crumble the Bekaa Dairy Shanklish into a bowl.

  2. Combine ingredients: Add the chopped tomatoes, garlic, and onion (if using) to the bowl with the Shanklish.

  3. Season: Drizzle with olive oil and lemon juice. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  4. Mix: Stir everything together until well combined.

  5. Garnish: Top with chopped parsley for added freshness.

  6. Serve: Serve the dip with thinly sliced fennel for dipping, along with warm flatbread or pita.
