Croatian Fritule
Ingredients:
1 cup Bekaa Dairy Natural Pot Set Yoghurt
2 eggs
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons rum (optional)
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
Pinch of salt
Zest of 1 lemon
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
Vegetable oil for frying
Vanilla Sugar (for dusting)
Instructions:
Prepare the Batter:
In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, and rum (if using). Add the Bekaa Dairy Natural Pot Set Yoghurt and mix until smooth.Add Dry Ingredients:
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, lemon zest, and cinnamon (if using). Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until you have a thick batter. The batter should be thick enough to hold its shape when spooned into the oil.Heat the Oil:
Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or pot over medium heat, about 5cm deep. To test if the oil is ready, drop a small piece of dough into the oil—if it rises to the surface and sizzles, the oil is hot enough.Fry the Fritule:
Using a spoon or your hands, carefully drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil. Fry the fritule in batches, turning them occasionally, for about 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown and cooked through.Drain and Serve:
Once golden, remove the fritule with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.Dust with Vanilla Sugar
Once cooled slightly, dust the fritule generously with sugar.
